Christmas and Easter Explained

These two periods are extremely busy for Albany and the Albany Holiday Park. Therefore there are changes to our policy, pricing and availability unique to these times. Below are common questions and answers to help you understand what is going on.

Why is it so busy in Albany during these times?

There are three main reasons why Albany gets booked out every Christmas and Easter period:
- Albany's weather is perfect during these times and the Southwest is the destination of choice for Perth holiday makers
- Visitor numbers to Albany increase greatly when there is a holiday due to the distance from Perth and surrounds. A four hour drive each way is more viable when there is an extra day or so in the trip to do it.
- Albany organisers typically schedule their events on long weekends and public holidays. It is common to find a half dozen or more major competitions, shows, meetings and festivals on a public holiday weekend. This brings participants in from all around the nation.

Why do accommodation providers require a minimum number of nights when booking?

Running a business during the extreme peak times is very difficult. Changes to how the business is run is necessary to provide good customer service and maintain the quality of accommodation units and their presentation. Considering most people want to stay multiple days, providers create a minimum booking duration to give them predictability in demand which helps them roster staff, order consumables and schedule cleaning.

Why is pricing higher during Peak times?

Each business makes their own decision on pricing and most accommodation providers worldwide use dynamic pricing which allows them to change rates to account for increases in costs or demand. It is worth noting that the cost of running an accommodation business increases greatly during public holidays due to the latest Fair Work requirement to pay very high PENALTY rates to staff. These penalty rates are so high it is common for a hotel to leave a room empty and dirty if someone checks out on a public holiday as it costs too much in wages to clean it. It stays empty until the next normal working day.
